Drew (1/2009) and her Mommy share playtime and their status with new friends! From Heather S.
Hi and welcome!!
I wanted to create a place where local moms could take a peek whenever and see what their friends Drew and Heather were up to at any time. I thought it would be cool to reveal where we like to go and when we have naps and classes etc, and when we are free to play!
Also i want to try to document for whoever is interested, how we roll in any situation so we can all get and give feedback on this awesome and challenging mommyhood journey-thing.
I will also make a wish-to-do list so we can find some willing companions for adventure and exploration- like for example we want to go to the Staten Island Children's museum but . . . what a hike! We definitely need a serious plan and some tough little cookies to come with us!
Enjoy our effort and we hope to meet and play soon
Heather and Drew (F/19 months old)
Please join us in activities that interest you and yours- and what exactly are we interested in? From Heather S.
Drew and I look for activities around the city that are:
age appropriate for Drew (born 1/2009)
easily accessible from our place, 68th street and Madison
focused on sports, crafts, music, dance, academics, japanese language and culture, animals, water and sand, eco-friendly/organic, food and cooking, open places to run, making friends
minimally rip-off/corporate
Rainy Day fun- what do all of you suggest? Lets add to the list! From Heather S.
Trying to make a master list of stuff to do when its sprinkling (you can go out, but not to the playground) and pouring (like it was this weekend- you could get washe away!)
Sprinkling rain:
Go to FAO Schwarz for storytimes and to play on the big piano- also do pottery at MAKE studio. Drew has a membership so we only pay per pottery piece when we go - no studio use fees. Someone gave me the great idea that she can just make a tile each time for $10 then after we have several we can start to cover a wall with them. What a cute idea!
Go to a Barnes and Noble (we like 66th and Broadway) to hang out and read
Go to a museum- all I can think of are the Manhattan Childrens Museum or Museum of Natural History
Go to a friends house or have a friend come over
Pouring rain:
Paint and color, especially pictures showing dogs, horses, and mommies and babies- animals or human. Drew is all about assigning mommy and baby status to everything!
Play with stickers. IDK what it is about stickers! I can't get enough-haha! Drew likes them too, but not as much. ;D
Play games- we like "I'm gonna get you" chasing games and act like an animal games
Glue cut shapes onto big pieces of paper or make paper dolls! woo hoo! Or make masks of your favorite animals to help you pretend to be them
Play with dough or silly putty (you can make home putty with two parts school glue and one part liquid laundry starch) They have liquid laundry starch at Gracious Home and cheap school glue at Staples.
Read and do puzzles
Let kiddo help you cook dinner in advance so you just heat and serve later- I have Drew stir or sprinkle cheese and move cut vegetables to the pot to cook
Bake cookies! of course take your time cutting or forming shapes to bake
Have a dance party with your own moves to a kids song- find "old macdonald" or similar on itunes or youtube to dance to- especially good if you can remember the moves for next time or if you little one has a meltdown sometime. Drew often stops freaking out after a round or two of "itsy bitsy spider"
Do some easy origami- Drew thinks paper boats, hats and cups are awesome.
Play ring around the rosie
Try some new ways of walking. Backwards? Sideways? Jump from one foot to the other or try a two-footed jump.
Ready, Set, Go! Saying this makes anything that comes after exciting, even cleaning. Or especially cleaning (Drew loves to clean! And always shows me when I've missed a spot! :p)
Make a tent with sheets and hide out. Bring a snack in there for an indoorsy picnic
The old knee bounce. Bouncy bouncy bouncy whoops! Baby falls through the knees! i say- we are riding on the horse and we come to a bridge- is it safe? no- theres a hole in it boom!
Bring a stuffed animal to life. have them wake up, walk around, get some breakfast take a nap etc.
Practice happy or sad or worried or mad faces. Drew squeals with laughter when I ask her to pretend she is sad and insists I do it first.
