Things to do From Amy P.
I just found this site, and created my own group for parents in las vegas. I have found it very hard to find things to do here, especially for kids that are younger.
As this is all new to me, right now, I would like for any ideas or suggestions on things sto do here in Vegas. Once the group starts to grow, and we get other parents, I would love for us to get together every once in a while, for our children to play together.
This is Linda. We also have a 2 y/o toddler at home. She just turned 2 last week. :)
We moved from Chicago about over 2 years ago. :)
Linda
Thanks so much for joining my group, and Happy Belated Birthday to your little girl!!!
What is her name?
Where exactly are you located at here in Vegas? Would like to get to know you guys some more, maybe we can get together for a play date. You can always contact me through email instead of on here if you would like.
Talk to you soon,
Amy
New members From Amy P.
Hello,
I would like to say hello to our new members and thank you for joining this group!!
Would like to know if you could tell me a little bit about yourselves, your little ones and your family. We know have 3 members and would like to maybe get a playdate scheduled for us all to meet in person!!!
If you have any ideas or suggestions please feel free to voice them!
I look forward to hearing from you,
Amy
I just joined this group-it doesn't look like there has been any activity in a month or so-hopefully it's still being monitored!
We just moved back here from Omaha, NE a few weeks ago. My husband works, but I am currently staying at home with our son (I'll be going back to school in Aug). We live in the Spring Valley area.
Our son Ryan just turned 2 on June 17. I've been reading the previous messages-does anyone have any tips on potty training? We are going to wait a couple more weeks for Ryan to get more adjusted and begin trying.
I'm looking for people to meet (for adult interaction) and for other children for Ryan to play with!
I look forward to hopefully hearing from other parents!
~Samantha (Sam)
Thank you so much for joining the group!!!
I can't really give you any tips for the potty training thing, it isn't going so well with my son either!!! :(
What is everyone doing for the 4th tomorrow?
If you all cound give me some kind of idea of what your schedules are like, there are quite a few of us now to maybe get a date together to meet and let our kids meet.
Let me know, look forward to hearing from you all.
Happy 4th of July!!!!!!
Does anyone want to get a Daddy Group started? From Nikki V.
Hi there,
I just found socialtoddler advertised in the group section of craigslist. I'm trying to find a group designed for Dads, who want to meet with other Dads, and bring their kids along too? My husband and I moved to Vegas almost 2 years ago, with our almost 2 year old daughter. He works long hours, but recently chnged his hours so that he could spend more time with our daughter. We don't know anyone in Vegas who have kids her age, and he would really like to meet some other Dads. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks so much :).
Nikki
We just moved back to Las Vegas from Omaha, NE a few months ago. We have our friends we had before, but none of them have kids at all. My hubby doesn't have a lot of friends so I think getting together with your husband or a group of dads would be great for him! He's shy (until he gets to know you) and doesn't put himself out there unless he's comfortable.
We have a 2 yr old son. My husband works 6am-4pm Sunday-Thursday with Fridays and Saturdays off. If your husband is interested (or if you're interested in getting the kids together w/ me or my hubby), let me know!
I'm a stay-at-home mom right now (until I find a job), and I'd LOVE an afternoon or morning to myself while both of them were gone! lol. :)
~Sam
I'd love to get together too. I have avoided Mum's groups so far, because I don't know how to drive yet. It's one of my goals over the next 12 months, but I'm pretty much stuck at home these days with the heat.
A weekend family get together would be awesome, and I'm also thinking about starting a craft group, from my house. I'll post about that soon :).
Talk to you soon!
Inexpensive Things To Do w/ Little Ones! From Samantha W.
Since I'm more or less a stay-at-home mom (until I find a job anyways!), I've been looking for things to do with Ryan. I thought I'd share some of the things I've found.
FREE Family Movie Festival courtesy of Regal Theaters-Two theaters in the Las Vegas area (Village Square Stadium on W Sahara and Ft. Apache and Regal Colonnade at E Pebble Rd and S Eastern) are showing free kid movies on Tuesdays and Wednesday at 10am. Each theater has two movies to choose from, and they are different movies at each theater. All the movies were either G or PG.
We went for the first time this morning, and we went to the Village Square Theater. We got there at 9:20, and there was already a big line, but we had no problem getting in. They showed each movie in two theaters. There were moms with strollers and infant babies so everyone and pretty much everything are allowed in for these. We saw Veggie Tales: The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. Click on the link below for what movies are coming up and what is playing where.

FREE Admission to the Children's Museum (FRIDAY JULY 16 ONLY!!!)-Target is sponsoring a free admission day to the Children's Museum. The hours are 10am-5pm. Obviously with it free and on a Friday, it will be crazy busy. We are going early to hopefully help avoid some of the rush (yeah, right!). If you go to the website, you can see all the exhibits they have going on right now. There is a Bearenstein Bears exhibit, a maze mania exhibit, a little town/village they can play in, a little desert and a lot of other neat things. Click on the link below for directions and more details.

Story Time-the Las Vegas Public Library offers story times at most (if not all) of their locations! They have different story times for different ages along with some hands-on activities for older children. The link below will show you times at each location.

Baseball-Las Vegas 51's- if you sign your child up for the Cosmo's Kids Club ($20), your child will receive special events only for Kids Club Members, 4 tickets to all Sunday Home Games, Official Club T-Shirt, Membership Card, Autograph Session w/ Players, and 15% at team store. I could really care less about any of that except the 4 tickets to every Sunday home game-that's pretty cool!

Last but not least, I found a magazine called Parents Guide of Las Vegas in the entrance of a Smith's where they have all the real estate books, car books, employment guides, etc. I don't know if there are others in the area (if so, I'd love to know about them and where to pick them up), but you can go to the magazine's website and find all the info in this magazine online. It lists all the little leagues contact info and websites along with different camps and daycares and museums and things to do with your kids.

Okay, that's all I have. Feel free to share any other info you may know of!
I have taken Evey to the Lied Children's Museum, and the Berenstein Bears exhibit is pretty engaging for the kids. Evey wouldn't let the other kids get on the Bear Scales :). They have a cool Bear Cave to hide in, and lots of educational props around the place. Definitely worth taking your kids to check out :).
I also wanted to mention that Green Valley District put on free outdoor movies on the weekends. It gets pretty crowded, so getting there early is a wise move. Grab a gelato from Wholefoods while you wait, or get on the cute little carousel. There's alot to see and do for cheap with your kids. http://www.thedistrictatgvr.com/outdoorPicShow.php
Alot of community centers have cheap kids classes and events too, so if you check your county website, you can find the center closest to you.
Welcome again the new members and thanks From Amy P.
First off I would like to say hi to all the new members here.
I would also like to say thank you to Samantha here with all the wonderful info that you have shared with us!!! It's awesome.
I asked a little while back where everyone was located in general so maybe we could find somewhere in the middle and get together with all of our littles ones. So if you could all share that, that would be great.
As far as the Dads group, I was thinking that once we all got together, our husbands would kind of get together as well. Not sure if thats what you really had in mind, but hey... I know my husband doens't have anyone here either outside of work so it would be nice for him to find some other dads as well.
Well I know some of you have my email address to contact me there, but for those of you who don't, here it is again. price_Dq@yahoo.com
I look foward to meeting with you all soon.
