Looking for parents of school-aged kids in the Riverwest and Eastside neighborhoods of Milwaukee From Lori E.

Looking for other parents in the area who want to get together for play dates and activities with other parents in their own neighborhood, to expand their child's socialization and be able to make friends nearby with whom to have fun and go on outings.
I'm a mother of a soon to be 7 year old boy. I am also a registered nurse, and we live in the Riverwest area. His father is a musician and a cook. Our son likes other kids of all ages, and is always looking to meet new friends.

My son was recently diagnosed with high functioning autism. He is 7 years old and does not have many friends because he is socially ackward. I would love to set up a play date for him. We live in Greendale by Southridge Mall. He gets along with kids his age or a little older.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you...very busy week! But I am delighted to receive your email! I set up this site over a year ago in hope of finding out kids like my son who, like yours, has high functioning Autism and who's also had very few friends because of his poor social skills and awkwardness. You are the first person who has responded in all that time that has a son my son's age! We live on the Eastside, but my son goes to Edgerton Elementary school in Hales Corner because MPS has been such a bad experience for him over and over. Since I work across the street from Greenfield's high school, it's not much farther to drive each day, and has been completely worth it. We have been planning on selling our house and moving out that way sometime in the next year. I am sure you son loves video games (don't all the spectrum kids?)...mine's really into Pokemon at present too, and miniature golf. He's 8 years old, advanced academically but immature emotionally and socially. He gets along better with older kids too therefore, and with other kids on the spectrum. He's been getting along great with the other kids at the social skills classes at WEAP on Tuesdays. But every class the kids tend to change so you never know when he's going to see each one again. So I would be delighted to have our boys get together and meet. He loves spending time with other kids whenever the chance arises. I'd love to see him develop a long term friendship! So let get a hold of each other and see what we can set up. Milwaukee Area Special Needs Kids Social Group looking for others to join for fun and socialization From Lori E.

My son is 7 years old, newly diagnosed as having high functioning autism spectrum disorder, though we've suspected something was different about him for years due to the problems he'd have frequently at school. While he's a sweet boy, and though he's at a 4th grade level academically, he awkward with his peers as he's socially immature, and physically not at the age-appropriate developmental level of his peers. This has really affected him making friends and he's lonely for others with play with. Additionally he has no siblings or even other children in his extended family, not friends of his parents who have children.

Looking for other parents who are interested in playdates, and organizing activities and outings for the kids to have fun and socialize with other kids, whether they are "special needs" or not! Please reply if you are interested and certainly add any suggestion you may have...

My daughter is 3 1/2 and autistic, and I also have a newborn daughter. Since my daughter was diagnosed, I recently became an SAHM to manage all of her therapies and care for my newborn. I would be excited to meet other parents in the area, esp. those who also have autistic children. If you have days or times in mind, please let me know. Thank!---Jenny

Quite a few of the members of this group have toddlers and young children. Although my son is now 8 yrs old, and not in the same age group, why don't some of the other members try connecting to each other?
