You are probably thinking that you are ruining all of your hard work of getting your toddler to sleep. Well in a way you are but you have no choice, toddler’s need what they need when they are sick. They are exactly like us; we all want our mommies when we are sick…
Try and stick with your toddler’s schedule as best you can, for feeding and nap times and also for bedtime. It is ok if you are off on the schedule by about 30 minutes but try to stick within those times if possible. Having said that remember to give your toddler lots of snuggles and tons of mommy/daddy time while he is sick. Basically all rules concerning sleep go out the window. If you need to hold or rock your toddler to sleep that is ok, you may even need to hold him while he sleeps so he is in an upright position, for easier breathing or just for comfort.
Just be sure to get back on track with your schedule as soon as your toddler is better and you may have to sleep train your toddler when he is better too, but don’t worry it will be only for one or two night at most. Just make sure that your toddler is 100% better before you sleep train again.
Under no circumstances should you sleep train a sick child of any age.
Try and get some zzzzzzzzzzzzzz’s yourself when your baby is sleeping as this is a hard time for baby and parents as well..
